CRC seminars are open to the public, without charge. The objective is to provide education on topics directly related to water quality.
In our watershed two words seem to invoke a lot of emotional reaction. Wetlands and riparian areas are seen as curses by some and blessings by others.
Should we fill wetlands and foster growth? Should we use every square foot of River banks for buildings or logging?
To help residents answer these questions and understand these two natural areas, the Chehalis River Council is hosting a free public seminar, April 29th. The seminar is for the public and starts at 7:00 p.m. in meeting room 2 at the Lewis County Courthouse Annex.
Guest speakers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wa. Department of Ecology will provide information on the natural function and importance of wetlands and riparian areas.
The Chehalis River Council is planning additional seminars in May, June and July. In May the topic will focus on how local residents have improved water quality. In June the seminar will focus on coastal erosion and land slides. In July the seminar will highlight flooding issues.
Questions can be answered by calling the CRC office, 360/807-0764, Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
The CRC Board of Trustees meets monthly at their office. Attendance is open to all interested parties. Please call, write or e-mail the CRC to be placed on the agenda.
