Attendance : CAC members Rob Schanz, Margaret Rader, Earl Emerson, Bill Barmettler, Gary Waltenburg. Guests: Chris Page (Triangle and Associates), Chanelle Holbrook
Study Area Meetings: We will focus on preparing for the four Study Area meetings in the next few months. For each meeting, the citizens from the local county will play a pivotal role in recruiting people to come to the meetings. The first meeting will be at Ocean Shores, and Grays Harbor citizens should coordinate on how to "get the word out". Gary will talk to Terry Willis and Mike Quigg. We should also provide Chris Page with ideas on appropriate ways to advertise for the meetings- media, places to post notices, etc. Chris handed out copies of a meeting notice flyer to post/give out at appropriate locations.
Chris also handed out drafts of some information sheets for use at the meetings. We reviewed these and gave Chris comments. We suggested that all materials (and our discussions in general) should avoid the use of acronyms and jargon, so that everyone can understand us. We also suggested organizing the fact sheets around key questions, and phrase information in real terms (avoiding 2514 planning jargon). There will be opportunities to comment on display materials at the February 7 Steering Committee Meeting and the February 22nd CBP meeting.
For the Ocean Shores meeting, some key groups include oystermen (Brady Engvall is a good contact), Ocean beach erosion interests, people affected by Ecology's Humptulips Temperature cleanup plans/TMDLs, people from Aberdeen, cranberry growers.
Public Involvement Plan: Chris handed out a new draft of the draft Public Involvement Plan. Chris will also coordinate with Kahle Jennings to ensure that all CAC members are mailed a copy. CAC members should comment on this before the next meeting in February. The goal is to present this to the CBP at the March meeting, and have the CBP adopt it in April. Chris can be reached at (206) 583-0655.
Next Meeting: The next CAC meeting will be a 12:00 lunch meeting on February 22nd in the Labor and Industries Building Cafeteria (Olympia), immediately after the CBP meeting. Note that the CBP is not meeting at the Lucky Eagle for the next couple of months. The agenda will continue to focus on the study area meeting plans, and approval of the public involvement plan.
