Water Quality Committee Meeting

Present: Terry Willis, Ron Wisner, Lee Napier, Brady Engvall, John Olson, Mike

McGinnis, Randy Cox, Dave Jarzynka, Craig Graber and Dave Rountry.

Welcome, Introductions, and Housekeeping

Willis asked the group to introduce themselves.

Presentation from Weyerhaeuser regarding the Cosmopolis Pulp Mill

Randy Cox introduced himself to the group. Cox works with Ecology regarding the

Bacteria TMDL and with NPDES permitting process.

He explained that Weyerhaeuser invested resource to further examine the modeling performed by Ecology that resulted in the Grays Harbor Fecal Coliform TMDL. Beyond examining Ecology's results, Weyerhaeuser also investigated the fate of coliform bacteria in the discharge from the mill to Grays Harbor.

Continued Discussion regarding the Draft Implementation (DIP) Plan for the Upper Humptulips TMD L

Craig Graber presented a revised draft Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) for the Upper Humptulips River Temperature TMDL. The study area includes the East and West Forks of the Humptulips for a total area of 120 square miles. The Forest Service owns 65% of the total area. The remaining land (35%) is privately owned. The majority of the private ownership is Rayonier Timberlands Operating Company (Rayonier)

A revised copy of the draft DIP is available online. If anyone wants to send comments, please direct comments to Craig at (360)407- 6299 or by e-mail at Cara461@ecy.wa.gov before 5:00 p.m. on June 18 at the latest. You may download the document at http:www.ecy.wa.gov/biblio/0310042.htmi. The DIP is scheduled for completion by the end of June. The group will further review this document during the next meeting.

Continued Discussion Regarding the Draft DIP for the Chehalis/Grays Harbor Watershed

Dave Rountry presented a revised document dated May 4, 2003 to the group. He reviewed the changes from previous versions with the group. Please note that text that has a line through it indicates it was added to the document.

Briggs Nursery Follow Up

Terry Willis reviewed a memo to the group from Kahle Jennings (Ecology) and Ann Wick (Agriculture) discussing this issue. The group will discuss a response during the next meeting since neither Kahle nor Ann were present.

Closing comments

The next meeting is June 12 at the Forestry Building.
