The meeting was held at the Olive Garden in Olympia. The two hour meeting went fairly quickly as we enjoyed good food and great company.
We discussed the different milestones coming up for the watershed plan and things that still need to be done. There is a concern that we are not reaching enough local landowners with information on the planning process. That could lead to problems when actual implementation begins. In spite of all our outreach efforts there was low attendance at the 'study area' meetings held in the spring of 2002. We would like to see more participation at the public meetings held after the Partnership approves the watershed plan in October 2003. After discussing approaches to bring new faces to the table we concluded that although we are not satisfied with the turnout at the 2002 meetings, the outreach that was done before those meetings was the best that could reasonably be expected. However, we do recommend that the Partnership make an effort to get articles about the plan in all of the local papers before the next public meetings. Members of the Citizens' Advisory Committee are willing to be identified as a point of contact for citizen questions and comments.
We (I) also enjoyed listening to several historical accounts told by both Lyle and Mike about the Chehalis Basin. It's remarkable to hear how dramatically things have changed, yet in some ways stayed the same, throughout our basin over the last 20 or 30 years!
