Water Quality Committee Meeting

May 12, 2005

Terry Willis, Dave Rountry, Dave Jarzynka, Patrick Wiltzius, Ann Wick, Kahle Jennings and Lee Napier were present.

Ann asked for clarification regarding the Tetra Tech report.  Napier revised the sentence to read “The Tetra Tech report does not go into specifics that this document would include such as specific locations to monitor and protocol for various parameters.

Coordinated Monitoring Plan

Jennings reviewed the revised document for the group.  He mentioned that the bold and underlined text were questions he had for the group.

The made the following comments for Section 1 and 2:

Section 3 he borrowed the format and some information from the Watch Over Washington campaign, which is no longer in existence.  The group liked this approach, but questioned the “Typical Activities” column.  The group would like to see some other indicator species or statement that clarifies this column of the table.

Patrick suggested we invite someone in to talk about other indicators such macroinvertebrates.

Section 4-For the subbasin maps, the group discussed why we needed subbasin maps.  The suggestion for subbasin maps occurred because of the size of the basin.  This project would include an effort to overlay the monitoring sites over the 11 subbasin map.  The group will try to put together a GIS based map together for the next meeting.  Napier will prepare the summary of the subbasins for this section using the text from the habitat restoration strategy.

Section 5-Summarize the Coordinated Water Quality Monitoring concept mentioned in the Tetra Tech report beginning on page 2.

Section C(1) move to subbasin section as an introduction.

Groundwater Monitoring Pilot Project

Ann described a potential opportunity for Department of Agriculture to apply some ground truth to their proposed management plan and implementing best management practices.  They are interested in the Chehalis because of the relatively higher quality areas of the Chehalis Basin.  She asked if the group was interested in talking more about this proposal.

The group would like to hear more about this proposal in August.  Also invite Charles Pitz to attend the August meeting.

In July we will finish reviewing the draft Coordinated Monitoring Plan, which is scheduled for presentation to the CBP in July.

The next meeting is July 14, 2005.
