TAG Meeting
May 12, 2006
Lewis Conservation District Office
Lonnie
Crumley, Lee Napier, Mike Kuttel, Bob Amrine, Chad Stussy and John Kliem were present.
Strategy
Update
The group reviewed
the subbasins, WAUs and/or tributaries that were excluded from the subbasin
templates. For the Boistfort subbasin, Bob will include all the tributaries
from the Rock-Jones and Curtis WAU. We still need Cedar, Gibson, and Porter
Creek WAUs and Chehalis Mainstem. Lee will confirm if Gavin completed the
Cloquallum subbasin. Chad will finish the Newaukum Subbasin. Lee will ask Randy if he can help with the Estuary.
During the
meeting, the group reviewed the Hoquiam, Upper Chehalis, Wishkah River, Wynoochee, and Lincoln Creek area.
Chad reviewed the Hoquiam River template.
- How much
of the dam management impacts flow? Lonnie responded that the water is
controlled in the spring to increase water storage.
- The
group revised the water quantity current conditions.
Chad reviewed the Wishkah template.
- Liked
the integration of the sediment assessment.
- Suggested
moving some current conditions to causes. He will get the changes to
John.
- Suggested
listing some fish passage actions as completed projects.
- Removal
of barriers and fish ladders should be listed as an action.
- Move
floodplain bullet related to 34 splash dams to the cause section.
- For the
riparian sections include text from page 15 of 2005 strategy with some
revisions that include positive and negative.
- Cause of
current conditions for sediment added a bullet “The Lower Wishkah basin contains soils that
have surface erosion potential and there are large areas that are
considered to have high mass wasting potential.
- Add to
floodplain that the Wishkah
Road frequently
enters the floodplain in the lower 23 miles which inhibits channel
migration and floodplain capacity.
- Add an
LWD bullet that past splash dam activities have impacted LWD quantities.
Lonnie was
okay with the Upper Chehalis Subbasin.
Chad reviewed the Lincoln Creek Subbasin.
- Would like
to see the barrier assessment results incorporated into the chapters.
- Brian
Thompson good resource for peer review of this chapter.
- Added
under cause high road density is 3.4 miles per square mile, per LFA.
- Suggested
describing the actions in the column and then rank the actions.
- Did not
rank actions by species. He will reprioritize his actions.
E-mail out
Brian Peck’s list of standardized actions to the group. Ask people for their
feedback.
John
handed out a sample for the final format and asked for feedback. Mike
suggested he include a summary of common watershed conditions present in most
or all subbasins. John might edit Section 2 to describe Mike’s suggestion.
The group
will meet again on June 9th for a DIP workshop on Watershed Management
Objective #18 from 9:00am until noon.
