The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is currently seeking persons interested in serving on the Citizen's Advisory Board of the Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group (RFEG) program. The RFEG program was created in 1990 as a means of involving Washington citizens in salmon enhancement efforts
Twelve non-profit RFEG volunteer groups have been established across the state. The groups receive funding from surcharges on recreational and conunercial license sales. Each group has its own board of directors that plans and implements salmon production, research and habitat enhancement projects
The eight member Citizen's Advisory Board meets quarterly to review and approve funding for projects proposed by the RFEGS. The Citizen's Advisory Board also reviews and comments on agency policy and proposes new legislation to increase the effectiveness of the RFEG program. Citizen's Advisory Board members are eligible for travel reimbursement and per them expenses but do not receive direct compensation for their service
Citizen's Advisory Board members are appointed by the Director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife to serve a three year term. By law, the Citizen's Advisory Board is comprised of representatives from the recreational and commercial fishing communities as well as a number of "at large" positions. Currently there are three positions open on the board; one "at large" and two commercial. Candidates for these positions should have an interest in salmon fishing and/or the salmon resource and have experience with volunteer fish and wildlife enhancement and restoration efforts. Persons wishing to be considered for these positions should submit a letter of interest and a resume to the Director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife by October 23, 1998. Each three year term begins January 1, 1999
