Pacific Powder Cleanup

The following is from the WaDOE Toxic Site Register distributed 6/5/2000

======================================================================
PRIVATE RIGHT OF ACTION Citifor Inc. (also known as Pacific Powder)
13120 Tilley Road South, Olympia, 98512, Thurston County
Pursuant to WAC 173-340-550(5), Private Right of Action, Citifor, Inc. has
given notice that an independent remedial action will occur at the
above-mentioned property.
Soil and possibly ground water have been contaminated with chemical
compounds as the result of buried drums and debris found near the former
Power Manufacturing facility. Records indicate the material was buried in
the early 1970s.
Previous work at the site includes removing drums, contaminated debris,
and 2,500 cubic yards of soil. The contaminants were treated off-site
and disposed or stockpiled at the site.
Planned work at the site includes overexcavation of in-place soil
exceeding MTCA cleanup levels, screening soil to remove rocks over 1-inch
in diameter, and removal and proper off-site disposal of soil that passes
a 1-inch screen and exceed MTCA cleanup levels. Four ground water
monitoring wells will be installed around the former burial area.
Soil removal and a preliminary ground water investigation will occur in
June and July 2000.
