Combination loan and grant to help repair failing system within Rochester association

The Rochester Sun News, 1/31/2001

USDA, Rural Development is funding a $1,046,000 loan and a $200,000 grant to repair a failing water system in Rochester.

Water samples taken from the wells had copper readings that exceeded the maximum contaminant level. The Rochester Water Association is treating its water to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The Rochester Water Association is located in Thurston County and consists of the following water systems:

Rochester, Brewer Estates, Brookbank, Grand Valley, Prairie Vista, and Sunsetvue. All the systems are served by wells.

Once the improvements are completed, the community will be in compliance with the Washington State Department of Health.

"The loan and grant provided by Rural Development will allow Rochester to provide safe drinking water for this growing community," said Mary E. McBride, Rural Development Washington State Director.
