ROAD CLOSURES
The Chronicle, 12/18/2001
Floodwaters closed a number of low-lying roads in Lewis, Thurston and Grays Harbor counties, including both lanes of U.S@ Highway 12 near Rochester and one lane of Kresky Avenue in Chehalis.
U.S. Highway 12 at Anderson Road between Oakville and Rochester was closed to traffic at about 5 a.m. and will probably stay closed for several days, based on previous flood events, said Tom Gibbs with the Department of Transportation.
The only detour route is through Elma and Olympia on Highway 8, Gibbs said. ' Kresky Avenue was down to one northbound lane Monday near Skippers, with water from Salzer Creek covering part of the roadway.
Other Lewis County roads closed include: Tune, Shorey, Roswell, Teague at milepost 8.8, Lincoln Creek at milepost 5, Big Hanaford between TransAlta and the Tono Road, Ray, Airport, Joppish, Telegraph, Teitzel, Brown and Mill roads, and Highway 506 near exit 59.
In the city of Chehalis, Florida, Pennsylvania, Folsom, Shoreline, Louisiana, Newaukum, Chehalis, John, the low end of Prindle and the Riverside bypass were all closed.
Lewis County maintains a public information line with current river levels, projected river crest times and road closures.
The number is 740-2692.
