Chehalis annexes airport property

The Chehalis City Council Monday passed on second and final reading an ordinance authorizing the city to annex 75 acres of property at 3110 Airport Road as a potential site for its new wastewater treatment plant.

The property, which is within the city's urban growth area, will be zoned general commercial effective March 1, Chehalis City Manager Dave Campbell said.

Margaret Barnes, the former owner who sold it to the city in November, still lives at 3110 Airport Road but is moving out, he said.

After a public hearing Jan. 28 during which no one commented, the Chehalis City Council passed the ordinance on first reading.

Mayor Bob Spahr submitted a petition for annexation to the council on Dec. 10, 2001. State law requires that a public hearing be held after the council accepts the petition.
