Environmental Information Management (EIM) System Web site

Ecology Department announces the Internet launch of the Environmental Information Management (EIM) System Web site. In 1997 the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) initiated a project to develop a system that would fill the growing need to collect and have access to physical, chemical and biological environmental measurements. This would benefit data-sharing efforts between Ecology and external users, a group that includes other state agencies, local government, researchers, educational institutions, and private citizens. Another benefit of such a database would be the extensive ancillary information also available, including where a sample was collected, the study under which it was originally collected and information about the quality of the data.

Currently, 215 studies, 6,000 locations and more than 1 million results have been loaded into EIM! Several pre-built data downloads make the data readily available and easy to use for several categories:

.

These extracts provide access to all the study, location and result records in the system as they relate to the download category. The exported files are provided in the industry standard, Comma-Separated Value (.CSV) format for easy file import into spreadsheets, databases, statistical packages, or environmental modeling software.

Future releases of EIM on the Internet will include interactive querying and data download. Stay tuned for future information.
