Former tribal employee pleads guilty to theft.

The former director of natural resources for the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to theft from the tribe.

Charanjit Singh Sodhi, of Olympia, was charged in connection with what federal prosecutors call a $15,000 kickback of money paid by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to a contractor.

The money came from a service contract Sodhi

awarded in the amount of $30,000 for preparation of ' a report about a water resource and survey technician training program being conducted by the tribe in 200 1, according to the U. S. Attorney's Office.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sodhi's sentencing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 13 before United States District Judge Ronald Leighton in Tacoma.


Dr. C.S. Sodhi was also vice-chair of the 5 county Chehalis Basin Partnership (CBP) between January 1999 and August 2003.
