Letter to the Editor
The Chronicle
To the editor,
On February 2 the Chronicle reprinted an article by Matt Hufman that came out
January 23 in the Aberdeen Daily World (Committee Tackles Chehalis River
Issues). The article tells about how Lewis, Grays Harbor, and Thurston
counties are coming togther to form a watershed council to deal with watershed
issues. It's good to have this information, but it would be nice to see some
investigative reporting coming out of the local paper.
Lots of things seem to be happening relating to flood planning--a Chehalis
Basin Watershed Council, Lewis County as the lead agency, Intergovernmental
Agreements, interlocal agreements to survey the river, contracts entered into,
and grants applied for. None of this has been presented to the public, and I
can't help but wonder about the role of the Lewis County Flood Control
Citizens Advisory Committee. The role of the Department of Ecology in
orchestrating many of these developments should also be interesting to the
people of the Chehalis Basin. I hope to see that one of the Chronicle's
excellent young reporters has tackled these issues and will let us all know
what's going on soon.
