The Dept of Ecology is holding workshops in preparation for revising the state's Water Quality Standards. The meetings are very important and need some of that non-existant time of all of you. Contacts for information is Mark Hicks: mhic461@ecy.wa.gov; (360) 407-6477. Ask him for the document on Temperature Criteria and the others you want.
The Workshops will cover Antidegradation, Eliminating Mixing Zones for certain bioaccumulative chemical, and Use-based Standards.
In turn Use-based Standards include: Temperature criteria for protection of aquatic life, Bacteria criteria for protection of swimming, Criteria for protection of domestic water supplies, Criteria for the protection of irrigation water supplies.
The Temperature requirements cover all species and all life stages and at first glance look much, much better than current standards.
The hearings will be held from 6:30 to 8:30:
March 2, Spokane
March 3, Kennewick
March 4, Ellensburg
March 5, Lacey, DOE Bldg.
March 9, Bellevue, DOE NW Regional Office
March 11, Bellingham
March 12, Vancouver
