In the July 30th edition of The Montesano Vidette:
The city of Aberdeen took the first step towards solving their perennial problems with drinking water purity on July, 1, awarding a $3.5 million contract to United States Filter Corporation of Palm Desert, California.
U.S. Filter will provide a total of nine "membrane modules" to filter water from the city reservoir. According to a U.S. Filter press release, the system will be the only one of its kind in Washington State.
The new system has a design capacity of 6.5 million gallons a day, and according to the company, will process more than 98 percent of that into potable water.
The system is scheduled to begin operation in the summer of 1999.
