The 1998 Flood Season Events

This is a chart showing the progression of the 1998 flood event.

The Skookumchuck, Chehalis at Centralia, Chehalis at Grand Mound and Chehalis at Porter gauge levels are from the WWW sites maintained by the Corp of Engineers (USACE) and the U.S. Geological Service (USGS).

The Black River level is a homemade guage located 3 miles east of Oakville.

The levels for the Skookumchuck and the Chehalis at Centralia are shown at 50% (fifty percent) of the true value. If they were shown at full value the other station measurements would be difficult to see.

Rainfall, in the Oakville area, is shown on a foot scale, but the measurement is accumulated electronically in inches. Rainfall is multiplied by a factor of 10 (so it will show on the chart). A reading 20 for rain represents 2 inches. A reading of 6 represents 6/10 inch, etc.
