USGS will demonstrate new flow-measuring device
EARTH DAY EVENT ON THE SKAGIT RIVER
A way to measure the flow of a river without going in the water or even
placing instruments in the river will be demonstrated by U.S. Geological
Survey hydrologists, Thursday, April 22, which is Earth Day 1999.
The demonstration will take place on the banks of the Skagit River, at 10
a.m., next to the Best Western motel in Mount Vernon, Wash., about 60 miles
north of Seattle. To reach the site, drive north on I-5 from Seattle; take
exit #229 into Mount Vernon, via George Hopper Road; turn right at the
first stop sign, onto South Burlington Blvd; go south back over the Skagit
River; take first right and look for the Best Western sign.
USGS and University of Washington scientists who developed the new radar
system will be available for interviews, following the demonstration of the
equipment.
