Coastal Erosion in Southwest Washington

On behalf of Grays Harbor County, Pacific County, the Cities of Westport(, Long Beach,) and Ocean Shores, and the Ports of Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay

You are invited to attend a public meeting and workshop in your community to discuss coastal erosion issues facing your community, how you can stay informed, how you can participate in efforts to solve these problems, and how your opinion can be heard now and in the future.

Four meetings are scheduled in early June throughout the region, each beginning at 7:00 p.m.

June 1st - Pacific Beach Elementary School Gym, 11 Fourth Street, Pacific Beach, WA

June 2nd - Grayland Community Hall, 2071 Cranberry Rd., Grayland, WA (one Country block off S.RR. 105 on Grange Rd.)

June 8th - Illwaco Heritage Museum, 115 S.E. Lake, Illwaco, WA

June 9th - South Bend Chamber Building, Corner of Alder and West First, South Bend, WA

Each meeting will begin with a brief discussion of the efforts of the US Geological Survey and the Washington Department of Ecology on the Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study and the concurrent efforts undertaken by the combined coastal communities of southwest Washington (approximately 1/2 hour). We expect to spend the rest of the meeting time (1 to 1 1/2 hours) listening to your questions and concerns. We hope to conclude by approximately 9 p.m. each evening.

Your local governments need your opinions regarding coastal erosion problems. Since there will be ongoing study and research over the next two years, we are particularly interested on how best to communicate with you so your concerns are heard and discussed, and so our efforts to resolve these problems are responsible and reported quickly and accurately to you. Should you be reluctant to speak up, forms and questionnaires will be available to help make your feelings known.
