Various cleanup alternatives have been evaluated for contaminated soil, groundwater, and surface water. EPA's preferred alternatives include continued operation of the soil vapor extraction system at Southgate Dry Cleaners to clean up the soil; continued operation of the air stripping system at the Palermo Wellfield to treat contaminated groundwater, and installation of a french drain and aeration system to remove contaminants from surface water at the base of the Palermo bluff.
Other alternatives evaluated range from taking no action, to using a pump-and-treat system to clean groundwater, and planting trees in the area of ponding surface water.
