Olympian expands its online presence
Beginning today, South Sound news stories, editorials, sports and obituaries can be
found on The Olympian's Web site, http://www.theolympian.com.
We'll post the top South Sound stories along with sports, letters to the editor, community
calendars and other news items by 6 a.m., seven days a week.
Also beginning today, the site will include links to national news and weather from USA
Today.
Our Web site was launched in June 1998 primarily for classified ads and some
community information. In the past six months, the site has received from 80,000 to
100,000 visits a month. Including news online is the natural next step.
"It's an opportunity for us to provide information about South Sound to people all over
the world," Publisher Fred Hamilton said. "There's an interest in what's happening in
the state's capital. The Olympian is the information source for local news in South
Sound, and now we have an additional way of delivering that information. It's also an
opportunity for advertisers. They can have a presence on those Web pages."
In addition to articles that appear in the paper, the Web site gradually will be expanded
to include supplemental information. For example, we can track the status of bills in the
Legislature and provide more agenda detail than space allows in the daily paper. John
Greenland, online manager, will develop other content opportunities for online to team
up with the newspaper as partners in information delivery.
Check us out online and let us know what you think.
